Final Punch
Mayweather wins the world boxing against Pacquiao after a unanimous decision by professional judges.
Knockout
Floyd Mayweather beats Manny Pacquiao with brilliant performance,
but promoter Bob Arum says one-armed Filipino was crucially denied shoulder
injection pre-fight.
Floyd Mayweather beat Manny Pacquiao on points in their welterweight showdown in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The American had to use all his skills and a telling reach advantage to remain undefeated after 48 professional bouts.
He won the “Fight of the Century” by 116-112 on two cards and 118-110 on the third, proving himself to be the world’s best boxer of his era.
He is now the WBC, WBA and WBO welterweight champion.
Pacquiao said after the fight he thought he had won it but not many observers agreed.
Mayweather opened the scoring with a couple of rights to win the opening round, using his reach advantage well. It prompted Pacquiao to try to force the pace from the second and by the third the spectators were getting their getting their money’s worth.
Pacquiao stunned Mayweather with a telling left in the fourth, forcing the American to cover up. Both boxers had their moments as the fight turned into everything the experts had predicted, and more.
Mayweather, however, was leading as they went into the championship rounds.
In what was promoted as the Fight of the Century and watched live on television by SuperSport viewers early on Sunday, and by millions of other boxing fans all over the world, referee Kenny Bayless had the honour of sharing the ring with two of the best boxers, pound for pound, of their era.
Famous film and sports stars assembled around the ring at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to watch a matchup that will be debated and remembered for years to come.
An eight-member choir sang the national anthem of the Philippines and Jamie Foxx sang the Star Spangled Banner as the tension mounted.
Pacquiao, who was almost beaming when he arrived at the venue, was still smiling as he walked to the ring, and even posing for cellphone “selfies”, as if he enjoyed the occasion. The former street child from Manila knelt down to pray as he entered the ring.
Mayweather, the highest-earning sportsman in the world, seemed more serious and focussed as he made his way to the ring, never releasing a smile.
“Money” Mayweather, 38, put his WBC and WBA titles on the line and “Pacman” Pacquiao, 36, defended his WBO belt.

Although his punches
didn't come in the bunches that Pacquiao's did, there were plenty of
telling blows.
Ringside judge Dave Moretti scored the bout 118-110 for Mayweather,
while judges Glenn Feldman and Bert Clements both scored it 116-112 for
the American.
